About the event
We are excited to host Megan Gunderson of Walt Wines for the first time in our tasting room! Join us to taste through the diversity of Pinot Noir from Sta. Rita Hills and beyond. Started by Kathryn Hall in the 1970s as a small family-owned farm in Mendocino County, today Walt's Pinot Noir bottlings span from Sta. Rita Hills to Willamette Valley in Oregon, known as the "1000 miles of Pinot". We've introduced customers to Walt's Clos Pepe and Sta. Rita Hills blend over several vintages, and the critics have already given high marks to the newly released 2024 bottlings. According to Jeb Dunnuck, "These are classy, Burgundian-styled Pinots, with the Clos Pepe the standout... I love everything about this wine, and I promise you it would do just fine in a blind tasting of top red Burgundies." But don't forget there is a wonderful lineup of wines from northern vineyards to be poured at this event too, in addition to a special tasting of their sister-label, Hall Wines. Stay tuned for the final line-up!
Megan Gunderson's winemaking journey began in the lab, first at Robert Mondavi Winery in 2001, followed by lab manager roles at St. Supery Winery and Dominus in Napa Valley. In the lab -- what Megan considers the "nerve center" of the winery -- she learned about the lifecycle of wine, understanding the science that informed winemakers' vinification decisions. At Dominus, she honed her winemaking craft under the mentorship of Christian Moueix and Jean-Claude Barrouet. That led to a role as Enologist for Walt Wines in 2005, back when Kathryn and Craig Hall owned 3 properties. She rose through the ranks with increasingly central roles in the winemaking operation. In 2018, she became Vice President of Winemaking, leading the wine program for three of the family-owned premium labels, including Walt, Hall and Baca Wines.
Click through to reserve your seat at either 12 pm or 2 pm. A $50 fee is required to hold your seat, which can be applied to $350+ bottle purchases at the event.
